Skipping Stones Series Artist Statement
We arrive at a shoreline at some point in our lives and stand on the edge where land greets water – an expanse so still and silent that it begs for our mark. We search for our ideal of perfection amongst the many stones offered: rolling, contemplating, guessing at their ability to skip across the water and not sink. The variables are infinite. The challenge is the camaraderie between stone and hand and water.
The more we play the more absorbed we become until we disappear into the radiating concentric circles borne anew with each delightful skip. It is this playful act of skipping a stone that inspired the infinite possibilities of mark, color, form and composition found in the Skipping Stones series.
